Evacuating for Hurricane Gustav

Reactions:

Wouldn't you know we would have the worse luck!

We had a huge electric bill to pay ($345) and if we didn't pay it, we'd be cut off on Thursday (we had an extension til 8/27). Now I find out that this hurricane is aiming directly at us! All the computer modules are aiming at us!

At last check 10 am and Noon news has it coming directly for South East Louisiana, that's us. Everyone will be under a mandatory evacuation as of Sunday unless something changes.

We are leaving with my sister Sunday morning if we need to. We are headed to Texas. My daughter is headed to Mississippi and I don't like it, but pray she'll be ok.

I have set up a donation button above in case anyone would like to donate funds to us. We only have $120 left out of hubby's check and well, we have to help with gas and $120 isn't going to go far unfortunately with the price of gas.

Red Cross isn't going to help with money unless this is a long drawn out thing like it was for Katrina and there are no places here that will give money.

We are in a voluntary evacuation right now, by Sunday it will be mandatory.

Pray for us and our city/town/state. Katrina broke our levees, but she wasn't a direct hit on us, this may be the one to destroy us who knows.

I'll post when we get to Texas or if we are staying so everyone knows what is going on.

Ice Cream Cone Cupcakes

Reactions:
Links to this post
I think this is perfect for kids birthday's at school or school fairs.

Ingredients:
1 pkg of your favorite cake mix
1 - 2 packages of flat bottom Ice Cream Cones
Icing Sprinkles
Aluminum Foil
Cupcake pans

Directions:
Prepare the cake mix according to package directions. Follow all directions for cupcakes, including oven temp. Take the cones and wrap the bottoms in foli to stablize the cones in your cupcake pans.

Fill the cones a little more than half way with batter. Batter will make between 1 and 2 doz cup cakes. Place in oven. Check for doneness with a toothpick.

I remove the foil and pans and let the cones cool in an flat bottom colander or pan. They cool pretty quickly, about 30 min.

When cool, Ice the tops of the cakes to look like Ice cream and decorate.

They really are yummy! But you really can use any combination to get the look you want. Just add food coloring to get the desire color you choose if it is not avaible.

Again this is not my recipe, but I received it on allthingsfree yahoogroup and these are so cute!

MINUTE CHOCOLATE MUG CAKE

Reactions:
Links to this post
You can use this recipe for yourself or for a gift in a bag/jar type thing.

To give as a gift:
Just get all the ingredients together in a zip lock bag or jar, put the mug and ingredients in a bag or basket write out the directions or print it out and give as a gift.

Ingredients:
1 Coffee Mug
4 tablespoons flour(that's plain flour, not self-rising)
4 tablespoons sugar
2 tablespoons baking cocoa
1 egg
3 tablespoons milk
3 tablespoons oil
3 tablespoons chocolate chips (optional)
Small splash of vanilla

Directions:
Add dry ingredients to mug, and mix well .
Add the egg and mix thoroughly.
Pour in the milk and oil and mix well.
Add the chocolate chips (if using) and vanilla, and mix again.
Put your mug in the microwave and cook for 3 minutes at 1000 watts.
The cake will rise over the top of the mug, but don't be alarmed!
Allow to cool a little, and tip out onto a plate if desired.
EAT! (this can serve 2 if you want to share!)

And why is this the most dangerous cake recipe in the world? Because now we are all only 5 minutes away from chocolate cake at any time of the day or night!

Not my recipe received from allthingsfree yahoogroup.

How To Speed Clean Your House

Reactions:
Links to this post
In the kitchen:
Every night, take 5 minutes after dinner to:

Wipe down counter and stovetop (2 minutes).
Run a damp cleanser-treated microfiber cloth across the counter using horizontal overlapping strokes, and spot-clean spills and grease on the stove (including under the burner rings) and in the microwave.

Sweep the floor (3 minutes).
Look around: If you spot coffee grounds, cookie crumbs, or pet hair balls on the floor, grab a hand vacuum or flat Swiffer-style sweeper and give the floor a quick once-over, starting in the farthest corner and working out toward the door. Wipe wet spills with a dampened paper towel.

Every 2 weeks, take 13 minutes to:

Dust walls and cupboards (4 minutes).
Use a half-damp microfiber cloth (Dellutri says H2O and microfiber are all you need to tackle 90 percent of household surfaces) to spot-dust walls and cupboards as well as door and window frames.

Clean out the fridge (2 minutes).
Spot-clean mysterious spills on shelves and inside drawers with a damp microfiber cloth.

Wipe down surfaces (3 minutes).
With a cleanser-treated cloth, wipe down the counter, sink, stove, and fridge (including handle) using overlapping horizontal strokes (no redundant circles!). A grout brush and lime-scale remover will nip grit and grime around the faucet.

Clean baseboards and floors (4 minutes).
Sweep baseboards with a Swiffer or dry microfiber mop, then sweep the floor, starting in the farthest corner and working out of the room. Spray cleanser on the mop for an I've-been-mopping- all-day shine.
In the bathroom:
Every day, take 3 minutes after you shower to:

Spray tub, tile, and shower curtain/doors (30 seconds).
Let a shower spray fight all-over scum while you get on with your day.

Spruce up the sink (30 seconds).
Grab a paper towel from under the sink and run it across the vanity and sink bowl to clean up toothpaste, powder bronzer, or whatever you may have left behind.

Wipe down the toilet (1 minute).
If the toilet is showing telltale signs of messy aim, use a disposable disinfecting wipe to give the throne a royal wiping-down.

Spot-clean the floors (1 minute).
Use a paper towel or rag to wipe around the tub and toilet, and below the sink where dust and drips gather.

Every 2 weeks, take 14 minutes to:

Disinfect the toilet (1 minute).
Maximize the disinfectant in your multisurface spray by letting the cleanser fight germs and bacteria while you work the room. Spray the toilet — from the commode (don't forget the flusher) to the base.

Clean the sink (2 minutes).
Again bucking the "spray your cloth" rule, spray sink fixtures and surfaces. Let the cleanser disinfect while you spray a microfiber cloth and clean the bathroom mirror using horizontal overlapping strokes to prevent streaks. Then, use the cloth to wipe down the sink.

Shape up the shower (5 minutes).
Spray tile with multisurface cleanser. Let it eat away lingering soap scum while you quickly scrub the tub (target the sides and the floor) with a scrub pad and a dab of cream cleanser (like Soft Scrub). Wipe shower tiles with a clean, damp microfiber flat mop, then clean shower door with a microfiber cloth.

Finish cleaning the toilet (3 minutes).
Sprinkle a mild powder cleanser inside the bowl. (Never mix cleansers in the bowl or on surfaces — this may cause noxious fumes.) Use a damp microfiber cloth to wipe away the cleanser and buildup on the surfaces you sprayed seven minutes ago. Now, grab your brush — the two minutes you spent shining up the john just shaved off half your scrubbing time.

Sweep and mop floor (3 minutes).
Tackle dirt in hard-to-reach areas — behind the toilet, under the sink — with a microfiber cloth. On entire floor, do a dry, then a wet, once-over with a flat microfiber mop. No scrubbing necessary!

In the living room:
Every night, take 3 minutes before bed to:

Clear away clutter (2 minutes).
Tie up newspapers for recycling; stash magazines and remotes.

Spot-clean the floor (1 minute).
If the day brought tracks of debris through the room (leaves, pretzel crumbs), use a hand vac to get rid of messes.

Every 2 weeks, take 12 minutes to:

Dust ceiling fans, bookshelves, walls, and windowsills (2 minutes).
Use a microfiber extendable duster or an ostrich-feather duster (ostrich feathers are dirt-trappers too) to dust ceiling fans, blinds, light fixtures, and bookshelves. Then swipe walls and windowsills with a damp microfiber cloth.

Tidy the tables (5 minutes).
Swipe coffee tables and other surfaces with a damp microfiber cloth. (Keep a dusting cloth tucked away in a drawer in an entertainment center or an end table so it's easy to find.) Straighten surfaces as you go; whenever you pick up an item, dust the surface where it sat, then the spot that you're moving it to, before you set it down.

Sweep baseboards; vacuum or sweep floor (5 minutes).
Run a dry microfiber mop along baseboards to remove dust and pet hair. Continue sweeping noncarpeted floors with the microfiber mop. For carpets, vacuum the room. Employ the golden cornrowing rule: Push the vacuum all the way up one side of the room, turn, and walk back down the next row — it covers more carpet area in less time.

In the bedroom:
Every day, follow basic living-room maintenance plus take less than 2 more minutes to:

Make the bed (1 minute).
Pull up the covers and fluff the pillows.

Unclutter the dresser or bureau (30 seconds).
Straighten up dresser top, then use a microfiber cloth to pick up any errant dust or hair.

Every 2 weeks, take 6 minutes to:

Change the bedding (3 minutes).
Wash sheets in at least 130-degree water (set dial to "hot") or pour in a detergent additive (Dellutri recommends De-Mite Laundry Additive, $13.99, natlallergy.com) to kill invisible dust mites lurking in your linens.

Vacuum or sweep the floor (3 minutes).

1. Spend 5 minutes a day tidying the main rooms of your home. A day's worth of dirt is easier to tackle than a week's accumulated mess. Then, every two weeks, do a quick, deep clean.

2. Keep your cleaners handy and organized. Stash a set of tools and cleaners under the bathroom and kitchen sinks, so you don't have to lug them around for quick touch-ups.

3. Embrace microfiber technology. The intricately woven fibers trap fine dirt and liquid — rather than pushing it around like other cloths.

4. Work efficiently. Apply cleansers to your mop or cloth, rather than directly to floors or counters, so you don't spend more time cleaning up product than spills. And use long side-to-side strokes (cornrowing) with your mop, vacuum, or cloth on floors and surfaces to avoid repeat cleaning (which happens when you move in circles), says Dellutri.

5. Clean each room from top to bottom, dry to wet. Knock dust and dirt from high places down to low places. And always dust before mopping and drywipe before cleansing. (You'll just be moving debris around if you wet-clean first.)

1. The oscillating head on the SonicScrubber ($13, sonicscrubber.com) lets you clean buildup around your faucet and dried drips in the fridge without breaking a sweat. Pick up an extra one for your bathroom, too!

2. Use Method Daily Shower Spray ($4, methodhome.com) and you'll never have to scrub your tile again. The nontoxic ylang-ylang-scented formula is safe to spritz near your loofah.

3. Dump a capful of Kaboom's Bowl Blaster ($11, kaboom.com) into your toilet bowl, and its foaming powder will rise to the rim, breaking down stains (even hard water) while you tackle other tasks. Ten minutes later, just flush (no brushing!) and go.

4. Put more leverage behind high-powered bathroom tasks with the two-foot-long Clorox Bath Wand ($10 for starter kit, $3 for soap-filled disposable refills).

5. For quick cleanups, keep a canister of durable disposable wipes in the bathroom and kitchen. Try Clorox Disinfecting Wipes ($4 for 35) in lemon, orange, lavender, and fresh scents; or Method's "scentalizing" wipes ($4 for 30, methodhome.com) in grapefruit, cucumber, or lavender.

6. The Mohawk FloorCare Essentials Hard Surface kit ($40, mohawk-flooring.com) comes with a wet/dry microfiber mop and a nontoxic, soap-free spray that shines any hard surface. (Other soapy cleaners leave behind a dirt-attracting residue.)

25 Easy Money-Saving Tips

25 Easy Money-Saving Tips
By: Terri Seymour
http://www.SeymourProducts.com

1. Cut out the soda and drink more water! You'd be
surprised how much you will save.

2. Go over your grocery list. Try buying more off-brands.
Most of the ones I've tried are just as good as their more
expensive counterparts.

3. Buy clothes and shoes for you and the kids from the
clearance racks. I have been buying my sons' school clothes
this way for years!

4. Get movies from the library instead of renting them.

5. Same with books, borrow instead of buy. We usually
only read them once anyway.

6. Go on a picnic instead of going to the restaurant. It
is more fun and much cheaper!

7. Toss all your change in a "piggy bank" of some kind and
let it accumulate for a few months or longer. You will think
you struck it rich! (Not really, but it does add up)

8. If you have all the movie channels, cut them down a bit.
Most of the movies rotate through them all anyway.

9. Do your laundry at night. The rates are cheaper.

10. Give your clothes an extra spin as it costs less to run
a washer than the dryer.

11. Ask your credit card companies for a lower interest
rate. Sometimes rather than lose a good customer, they
will grant your wish!

12. Buy your holiday decorations AFTER the holiday. You
can save up to 75% or more.

13. Turn down your heat a couple degrees more at night
and throw on an extra blanket.

14. Clean behind your refrigerator at least once a year to
get out all the dust and dirt that can cost you more money.

15. Save empty bread bags and grocery bags instead of
buying box after box of storage bags.

16. Keep your car tune and your tires properly inflated
to save money on gas.

17. Buy inexpensive fabric for cloth napkins, doilies, etc.

18. Be creative when it comes to decorating. Use sheets to
make curtains. Use an old quilt as a cozy wall-hanging.
Create an artful display with family photos.

19. Save the new, convenient plastic coffee cans with handles.
Paint them, decorate them and use them for organizers for
kids art supplies, your CDs, pens & pencils, food envelopes,
recipes, craft supplies, etc.

20. Turn unused stuff into money. If you have a gift you
haven't used or that shirt you bought and never wore,
take them back to the store. You might not get full price,
but some is better than none.

21. Use petroleum jelly to remove make-up. It is much
more economical then beauty products made for
removing make-up.

22. Hydrogen peroxide can be used to kill germs in cuts
and sores rather then expensive antibiotic medicines.

23. Make windowsill or container gardens and grow
herbs and fresh vegetables.

24. Instead of a night on the town, send the kids to Grandma's
and have a romantic night at home.

25. Make and STICK TO a budget!

It takes a sick person to do this Full Story

Reactions:
Links to this post
*WARNING, graphic content of animal abuse*

This is my friends email to us after we all asked her if she had called the police.

"Yes, we did report it to the police. The police came & had another officer come to look at my cat. He called in another officer who took photos & has been working on other cases of cats they found. One had been cut up & another had his head cut off. (I think they should have warned the town in the paper!!) I remember reading last year about a missing cat, the women saw it on her doorstep & the organs had been removed, also. They put the cat back on her steps so she would find it like this. I feel this was the case w/ our cat, too. They knew we would look where we looked. Last night at around 10:30, we heard a cat screeching for its life. The police couldn't say for sure if someone did this to my cat, they say he could have died of old age & animals could have done it after he died. They did wonder why there was no blood or signs of fighting. A pitbull could have done it. I can tell someone did it, it was horrible. He looked terrified when he died. That is the hardest part for me.

The strange thing is on Tue. I had my pic. taken with Tiger. I don't think I have had our pic. taken in years. Wed am, he was gone. I saw him at 3:00 am when I brought my Mom to the airport, by 6am I was home. He never came back. My kids and the neighbor boy found in the next day. We searched for him all day. I feel so bad because Jordan found him & went running to pick him up, thinking he was hurt, and they got to him & saw him cut open. It was horrible, really, really sad.

I just wish I had never let my cat outside but he was abandoned when we got him (11 years ago-he was around 12 now) & he was so unhappy being inside all of the time that I let him outside to enjoy the sunshine & fresh air. Poor cat always stayed in front of the garage door or near the front door or stayed on the back patio. He would ocassionally venture to the neighbor's yard because he had 2 cats.

I live in Navarre, FL. Safe little area of the FL Panhandle. I saw about 10 signs for missing cats when we were out looking for this dog's owner. I wish I would have seen them sooner.

Now the story I was going to tell you was my husband buried our cat & we were all walking out the back patio door to say our last "goodbyes" near his grave. This dog came stumbling through our yard. I was sure this dog must have caught our cat after-all so I followed him, he was at our front door, just panting & dying. Could barely stand up. He then went into our garage & laid down like he was dying. We saw he was old & couldn't have possibly caught our cat so we got him water & put cool towels on him. We brought him into our house so he would live & called a vet. It is the kind of dog my kids always wanted. (A big dog, too. I am nervous around big dogs) We have asked everyone in the neighborhood if they know who's dog it is, none of the kids recognize him, he is not listed on craigslist or on signs or in the papers. He is old & has trouble walking. I still have him in my house. He just seems to be here for a reason, maybe for awhile to get us through this. I tell the kids that someone is searching for him so we can't keep him if someone comes for him. If nobody claims him, we will keep him. It was just so strange, the timing & the dog coming to us, etc. he has kept us busy & is helping us to not focus on Tiger 100% of the time. What do you think of this????"

I told her I think the dog is God's way of trying to occupy their minds, so they don't dwell too much on their loss and what happened. They will still feel the pain, but not dwell on it as much, especially the kids.

How about you all, what is your opinion on this??????

I am trying to spread the word here, anything you can do is greatly appreciated. He was a real child's advocate and touched many lives.

It takes a sick person to do this

One of my online friends has a cat named Tiger and he was missing yesterday. She said he never stays gone for longer than 2 hours, and she was worried about him. Well, she found him last night and he was dead.

Now this is the part that is so sick!

Straight from her email:
"We found our cat. He is dead. His insides were removed. What a horrible, horrible thing to deal with."

She said she will write later today and tell her friends what happened and when she does, I will either add to this post or start a new one, but OMG what kind of person would do that to an animal?!

She has kids, and now has to explain to them what happened to their cat. I don't think the kids found him, at least I hope they didn't that would be so awful for them to have that picture in their heads at bedtime.

God Bless Tiger!

Lisa Marie Presley is expecting twins.

Rocker Elvis Presley's daughter is expecting twins, her mother has confirmed.

"She wanted it really to be kept a secret for a long time," People quoted Priscilla Presley, as telling Entertainment Tonight.

"And I think women should, because they should be able to announce what they're having and when it's time to make the announcement," she added. Lisa Marie, 40, and her husband, rocker Michael Lockwood, 47, will greet their babies in the fall.

Lisa Marie who wed Lockwood in 2006 has two teenage children, daughter Riley, 19, and son Benjamin, 15, with ex Danny Keough.

The twins will be Presley's first children with husband Michael Lockwood. A source close to Lisa Marie said: "She's never been so happy!"

Did you know, Lisa Marie's dad, Elvis, was a twin, and her mother, Priscilla, has younger brothers who are twins?
I knew about Elvis' twin, had no clue about Priscilla.

Introducing Knox Leon and Vivienne Marcheline!

The first photos of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt's twins debuted on the Web sites for British magazine Hello! and People on Sunday.

The shoot with the now three-week-old tots took place last weekend, New York Post columnist Keith Kelly reported Friday.

In a joint venture, People magazine purchased the North American rights to the photos while Hello! owns the worldwide rights.

Citing a "person involved in the negotiations," the Associated Press reported the publications shelled out $14 million for the photos - making them the most expensive celeb infant pictures ever.

The money from the photos snapped by Getty Images will go to a foundation created by Jolie and Pitt, the AP reported.

Jolie, 33, and Pitt, 44, forked over $8 million for their foundation in 2006, according to their federal tax filings. They supplied their joint foundation with over $4 million each. Half their contribution came from the sale of Shiloh's first photos

Knox weighed 5.03 pounds and Vivienne weighed 5 pounds.

Pitt cut the umbilical cord.

"He was perfectly calm, totally determined, very pleased to be at the birth of his children, very moved and very emotional," Jolie's obstetrician, Dr. Michel Sussmann, who delivered the babies via a double Cesarean section, revealed in a press conference.

The birth was far from melodramatic.

"Jolie and Pitt were always laughing and having a good time together, even during the birth operation," Sussmann told The Jewish Journal.

They are just 3 weeks old, but twins Knox Léon and Vivienne Marcheline are about to take the world by storm.

In an exclusive interview and photos, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie offer PEOPLE an intimate look at their growing family.

"It is chaos, but we are managing it and having a wonderful time," Jolie tells PEOPLE of daily life at the Château Miraval in Provence, France, where the couple's four older children – Maddox, 6, Pax, 4, Zahara, 3, and Shiloh, 2 – have been enjoying a summer of outdoor play (hide-and-seek is a favorite) on the château's sprawling grounds.

"Shiloh calls them her babies. She and Z pick out their clothes and help change and hold them. It's sweet — they are little mommies," Jolie tells the magazine, to which Pitt, 44, adds: "This is Mad's fourth/fifth time becoming an older bro. He's asking us when we can have more."

Jolie says she and Pitt were "in shock and could not stop laughing" when they learned they were having twins, and denied speculation that they had conceived the children through in-vitro fertilization.

"If they had been conceived through IVF, we would have been happy to discuss it," she says. "But we have been fortunate never to have had fertility problems."

As for the twins' personalities, Pitt says, "Viv is proving to resemble Ange in spirit, attitude and physicality. And Knox, a bit of me."

Adds Pitt: "[It's] still a cuckoo's nest."

The photos were published in an issue of People on newsstands Monday. The cover was posted Sunday on the magazine's Web site.

For the complete story, including 19 pages of intimate family photos and the full interview with Brad and Angelina, pick up this week's issue of PEOPLE, on newsstands Monday http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20216352,00.html
