Cervical Cancer Screening: Do It, It’s Important

Reactions:

As you’ve heard, January is Cervical Cancer Screening Month. The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force, an independent panel of experts which reviews clinical preventive services, has given an “A recommendation”—its highest endorsement—for regular cervical cancer screening, and Pap smears in particular, stating that regular testing reduces incidence and mortality of this type of cancer.

So what does that mean to you? To understand, it may help a little to know more about cervical cancer itself.

According to the National Cancer Institute, cervical cancer usually develops slowly over time. Before cancer appears in the cervix, the cells of the cervix go through changes known as dysplasia, in which cells that are not normal begin to appear in the cervical tissue. Later, cancer cells start to grow and spread more deeply into the cervix and to surrounding areas.

Although most women with cervical cancer have the human papillomavirus (HPV) infection, not all women with an HPV infection will develop cervical cancer. Many different types of HPV can affect the cervix and only some of them cause abnormal cells that may become cancer.

The HPV Vaccine, can protect against certain types of HPV viruses that have been linked to cervical cancer. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that the vaccine be administered to females 11 and 12 years of age, although it may be given as early as 9 years of age on up to age 26 in those women who have not been sexually active. The vaccine does not protect against every type of HPV infection and cannot prevent all cervical cancers. It is still important to continue getting regular exams and Pap tests.

Pap smears can detect both HPV and the abnormal cells that cause cervical cancer early, which means your doctor has a chance to treat them before they become cancerous. In cases where cervical cancer is already present, Pap smears offer early diagnosis and a much higher chance of effective treatment and recovery.

Generally, Pap smears are recommended within three years of onset of sexual activity, or age 21, whichever comes first, with additional screening at least every three years afterward. Certain risk factors may change how frequently you should have the screening. As always, consult your doctor for personalized recommendations.

Kellogg warns not to eat its peanut butter crackers

Reactions:

CNN) -- The Kellogg Co. announced Wednesday it is recommending that consumers not eat its peanut butter crackers because they may be tainted with salmonella.
Salmonella bacteria are transmitted to humans by eating contaminated foods.

The products affected are Austin- and Keebler-branded:
-- Toasted peanut butter sandwich crackers.
-- Peanut butter and jelly sandwich crackers.
-- Cheese and peanut butter sandwich crackers.
-- Peanut butter-chocolate sandwich crackers.

The Michigan-based maker of cereals and snacks posted the recommendation in a statement on its Web site.

Peanut butter produced by Peanut Corporation of America, one of several peanut butter suppliers to the company, has been linked to an outbreak of salmonella poisoning that has affected at least 434 people in 43 states, federal health officials said Wednesday.

"Kellogg Company's investigation has not indicated any concerns, nor has the company received any consumer illness complaints about these products," the Kellogg statement said.

How To Keep Wrapping Papers

Reactions:
0 comments Links to this post

Now that the holidays are over, I’m sure you have left-over Christmas wrapping papers that you want to keep for use next Christmas. If you just roll it up, the loose end of your gift wrap roll constantly unravels and the rubber band leaves creases. Using a tape is not a smart idea either because it results in tears.

The proper way to keep the paper neat and free of marks is by cutting an empty card board wrapping-paper tube lengthwise. Then put your rolled-up wrapping paper inside the tube. When you’re ready to use it again, let the free end of the wrapping paper hang from the tube’s slit opening. PRESTO! Your improvised wrapper dispenser lets you release the paper and prevents it from unraveling.

Second Hand Stores Will Stop Selling Children's Clothes

Reactions:
0 comments Links to this post
On Feb 10th any second hand store etc will have to close their doors
To selling ANYTHING to do with children under the age of 12. It will
Even be illegal for them to donate to good causes.

There is a new law that comes into effect that day that all materials
For any item for a child under 12 HAS to be tested for lead and the
Poisons in plastics. Now this part is a wonderful thing for new products
But what happens to all the items up to this point?

Well they have to go to the landfill or be tested which would cost
1000's of dollars for places that can't afford it. You won't even be
Able to sell them at yard sales legally!

So please read this letter that is to be sent to the Capitol!

Please take the time to read the letter before you decide against
Sending one.

Something has to be done.

This came in the mail today. I was so excited when my hubby gave me the package. lol

Funny about the mail man:
The mail person delivered our mail and then came back with the package and put it in our mail box after we had taken our mail out.

I entered to win this in November and was so hoping I'd win one. These are about $10 or $12 at Wal-Mart. I seen one being demonstrated and I said I wanted one then (that was around summer 2008).

Did anyone else get lucky and win one?
